Tennis Ball on Post

Welcome!!! The Pleasant Hill Tennis Club is a public tennis club sponsored by the Pleasant Hill Recreation & Parks District. Membership is open to adults of all ages. Most members reside in Pleasant Hill, Martinez, Concord, Walnut Creek, Lafayette, and other nearby central Contra Costa County communities. The club is a "Community Tennis Association" member of the United States Tennis Association ("USTA").

We are dedicated to providing "fun" "recreational" opportunities to participate in the sport of tennis. We also provide very significant financial support for the periodic resurfacing and other maintenance of public tennis courts in Pleasant Hill. Club volunteers contribute their time and effort to maintain the courts at Pleasant Hill Middle School. The club also has recently made gifts in support of the inter-scholastic tennis programs at College Park High School (Pleasant Hill) and Alhambra High School (Martinez).

Our "Home" tennis courts are located at Pleasant Hill Middle School. Click here for directions. Our primary activities include social "Mixers" that are held approximately 40 times a year, and "Tournaments" that are essentially social functions with lots of great tennis and lots of great food. Tournaments are held approximately 8 times a year. See Activities. Players seeking more competitive opportunities can represent the club on teams that play in USTA leagues against other Central Contra Costa County public and private tennis clubs. See USTA Leagues. The calendar year concludes with a joyous pot-luck holiday party traditionally held at the Pleasant Hill Civic Center. Annual dues are $40 for individuals and $50 for families. USTA membership ($40 per year) is required for USTA league play. Players interested in the club are invited to attend a first Mixer without joining the club. See the Calendar for Mixer dates. Questions about membership can be directed to Board of Directors member Anne Harpham by calling (925) 930-9608 or clicking here to send her an e-mail.

CLUB ACTIVITIES

Mixers and Drop Ins

Pleasant Hill Tennis Club (PHTC) Mixers provide a great way to enjoy a couple of hours of fun tennis and meet others who love the game. Wear your tennis shoes, bring your racquet, and toss a $1 into the "Kitty" to cover the cost of balls. Under the leadership of a club member who has volunteered to be the coordinator for the day, players draw numbers for court positions and play 8 games of doubles using no-add scoring set. A bell rings, you draw numbers again, and the process repeats. It's all fun. Scores are not recorded. The skill level of Mixer participants vary, but you won't feel embarrassed if you can serve without double-faulting most of the time and know how to hit easier basic ground strokes and volleys. Non-members are welcome to participate in one mixer before becoming members. Mixers usually begin at 9 a.m. See the Calendar for dates. A "Drop In" is an unofficial Mixer. It may or may not be organized (much depends on how many folks show up). There is no charge and membership is not required.

Tournaments

The word "Tournament" can be intimidating for any player who has participated in a USTA sanctioned event where one loss sends you home. Not to worry! A PHTC Tournament is very similar to a Mixer--with a little more structure, a lot of food, an advance registration requirement, and an entry fee (usually $8 per person). Nobody goes home early! Play formats vary. Tournaments are usually held in conjunction with holidays, including Valentines Day, St. Patrick's Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Halloween, and Thanksgiving. Club membership is required. See the Calendar for dates.

Other Activities

The Club sponsors teams that compete against other tennis clubs. See USTA Leagues. We hold an annual Holiday Party that receives rave reviews. The more or less annual "Membership Appreciation Day" is essentially a PHTC "Tournament" with no entry fee. We occasionally hold joint tennis-social events with other tennis clubs in the area.
